There is a lot of excitement, anticipation, and nerves at the beginning of your pregnancy journey –  especially for first-time moms. However, pregnancy comes with an immense amount of social pressure to behave “perfectly.” You have a thousand different sources telling you that you have to eat certain foods, exercise in a precise way, and even what kind of music you should listen to. The truth is that each pregnancy is different, and what’s best for you is between you and your OBGYN. One thing that almost all pregnancy professionals agree on, however, is that moms should take high-quality prenatal vitamins before and during pregnancy.

Prenatal Vitamins for All Moms

When searching for the best prenatal vitamins, what do you look for? The search can be overwhelming when you consider what vitamins and minerals need to be present, how these nutrients are sourced, and if you have any dietary restrictions.

Vegan Life Nutrition has developed a Prenatal Focus Bundle built for moms of all lifestyles. While Vegan Life Nutrition addressed some nutritional gaps found in vegan diets, this product was created so that all women who are trying to conceive or are pregnant have a well-rounded prenatal vitamin that not only meets their own essential nutrient needs but also provides nutritional support for their baby.

President and CEO of Vegan Life Nutrition’s parent company, The GHT Companies, Jim Rex, says, “We developed this product based on the guidance of fertility specialists to deliver a comprehensive prenatal and postnatal program.”

Essential Vitamins Before and During Pregnancy

To take the guesswork out of your search for the best prenatal supplements, The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology(ACOG) has a list of which vitamins and minerals are necessary and recommended for prenatal supplements. The Prenatal Focus Bundle has over 20 vitamins and minerals, and here are some of the highlights:

Folate

Folate is the natural form of folic acid and can be found in leafy green foods. You should consume 400 micrograms of folate every day before you are pregnant until 12 weeks into the pregnancy.

Choline

Choline has numerous benefits for the baby, including its integral role in cell structure, DNA synthesis, and supporting a healthy nervous system.

Calcium

Like most nutrients that you consume while pregnant, Calcium will go to your baby first, whether you supplement it or not. If you’re not replacing what you’re giving away, you could end up with symptoms of calcium deficiency. Calcium supports both your and your baby’s heart, muscles, nerves, bones/bone development, and hormones.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D works to regulate the amount of Calcium and phosphate in the body, which are needed to keep bones, teeth, and muscles healthy. It’s recommended that you consume at least 10 micrograms of vitamin D each day, especially if you are pregnant during winter months or aren’t able to spend time in the sun regularly.

Learn more about the benefits of choline in your prenatal vitamins.

More Nutrients Than Other Prenatal Vitamins on the Market

You will be hard-pressed to find a more comprehensive prenatal supplement on the market. In the product development phase, Vegan Life Nutrition used the Recommended Daily Input (RDI) for each ingredient, ensuring that each dose provides the most nutrients possible to help you meet your nutritional needs every day. prenatal vitamins

Each Prenatal Bundle comes with a bottle of Prenatal Basic which includes the 20+ essential prenatal vitamins and minerals that you need every day before and during pregnancy, and a bottle of Prenatal Focus which provides an extra 550mgs of Choline per serving for optimal fetal care.

Here is a comprehensive list of all of the vitamins and minerals you will find in the Prenatal Focus Bundle:

Why Take Vegan Prenatal Vitamins?

When you become pregnant, your nutritional needs change. According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a daily prenatal vitamin is the best way to fill any gaps that you may have in your diet. While most vegans are very conscious about what they eat, it’s easy to miss out on some vital nutrients when relying on diet alone. You aren’t just eating for two when you’re pregnant, you’re eating to replenish the resources that your baby depletes as they are developing. Vegan prenatal vitamins are an easy way to support you and your baby no matter your diet or lifestyle.

Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful, exciting, and nerve-wracking journeys that a woman can experience. You are bombarded with information and uncertainty and all the while, your body is working hard to grow a tiny new human. With all the information out there, we at Vegan Life Nutrition want to provide you with three simple tips for a healthy vegan pregnancy. vegan pregnancy

3 Health Tips During Vegan Pregnancy

1. Eat Plenty of Iron-Rich Foods

One of the keys to a healthy vegan pregnancy is to increase your iron intake. Iron is essential for hemoglobin production.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “during pregnancy, the volume of blood in your body increases, and so does the amount of iron you need. Your body uses iron to make more blood to supply oxygen to your baby. If you don’t have enough iron stores or get enough iron during pregnancy, you could develop iron deficiency anemia.”

One great way to ensure that you are getting enough iron is to adapt your diet to include more iron-rich foods like:

  • Lentils
  • Chickpeas
  • Beans
  • Tofu
  • Chia seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Dried apricots
  • Kale

If you struggle to incorporate more foods like this into your diet, an iron supplement might be the answer. Vegan Life Nutrition is soon launching a new line of Prenatal and Postnatal Focus Bundles that include Iron, among many other essential nutrients that your body needs during the course of a vegan pregnancy.

2. Maintain a Regular Exercise Routine

Regular exercise is ideal for anyone looking to live a healthy lifestyle, but during pregnancy, it’s arguably even more important to maintain a regular routine. Light exercise can support your body during all of the changes it will experience throughout the pregnancy.

Benefits of Exercise

  • May help to reduce back pain
  • Promotes healthy weight gain during pregnancy
  • Supports heart health and blood vessel strength

Precautions to Take from American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

  • Don’t forget to drink water before, during, and after exercise to avoid dehydration. Look out for the signs of dehydration: dizziness, racing heart, dark yellow urine.
  • Wearing supportive active gear like a sports bra and belly support tape or belt can help reduce discomfort while working out.
  • Overheating can be especially dangerous for your body during pregnancy. Try wearing breathable clothing and avoid exercising outside during the hot and humid months.
  • Standing still and lying flat on your back may cause blood pressure issues. Keep moving and make sure you have proper back support while lying down.

Of course, you should first discuss your exercise routine with your OBGYN to determine any other potential health risks. Every pregnancy is different and you need to be sure you’re doing what’s best for you and your baby individually.

3. Take Prenatal and Postnatal Supplements from Vegan Life Nutrition

Taking both a prenatal and postnatal supplement is crucial to the health of mom and baby as a mother’s body depletes its own resources to support the growth of the child, during both fetal development and breastfeeding.

Vegan Life Nutrition’s Prenatal Focus Bundle and Postnatal Focus Bundle (COMING SOON) contains over 20 of the essential vitamins and nutrients mothers need to support a vegan pregnancy. These supplements are Certified Gluten-Free, 100% vegan, Non-GMO, and free of artificial flavoring.

Look out for the Prenatal Focus Bundle and Postnatal Focus Bundle, due September 2022!

Prenatal vitamins help to build a solid foundation for a healthy pregnancy. Vegan women in particular need to be intentional about taking a vegan prenatal vitamin that contains plant-based vitamins and minerals. The question is really less about “if” these women should take prenatal vitamins, and more so when should vegans start taking prenatal vitamins? When Should Vegans Start Taking Prenatal Vitamins?

What to Look for in a Vegan Prenatal Vitamin

While a lot of foods that we consume from diet alone are packed with nutrients, it’s necessary during pregnancy to take extra measures to replenish your vitamins and minerals daily – since you’re taking in nutrients for two, of course.

Here are some of the most important vitamins and minerals to look for in a vegan prenatal supplement:

Folate (Vitamin B9)

Folate is the natural form of folic acid and can be found in leafy green foods. According to the NHS, you should consume 400 micrograms of folate every day before you are pregnant until 12 weeks into the pregnancy.

Calcium

Like most nutrients that you consume while pregnant, Calcium will go to your baby first, whether you supplement it or not. If you’re not replacing what you’re giving away, you could end up with symptoms of calcium deficiency. Calcium supports both you and your baby’s heart, muscles, nerves, bones/bone development, and hormones.

Taking a vegan Vitamin D supplement is especially important for vegan moms because Vitamin D is typically found in foods like fish, eggs, and red meat. Also, depending on where you live, you may not be getting the necessary Vitamin D from direct sunlight.

Other vitamins and minerals you need to look for in a vegan prenatal supplement include:

  • Iron
  • Iodine
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Selenium
  • Copper
  • Manganese
  • Chromium
  • Molybdenum

You can learn more about what supplements are ideal for first time vegan moms from this blog post.

When Should Vegans Start Taking Prenatal Vitamins?

When should vegans start taking prenatal vitamins? According to Very Well Family, “It’s important to start taking prenatal vitamins as soon as you find out you are pregnant, but ideally well before you conceive.”

You can think about it a little bit like designing a nursery. You ideally don’t want to wait until the baby is born to start preparing a room for them. If they are born before you have a nursery, it’s not life-altering but should be done as soon as possible. The same goes for prenatal vitamins. You want to be sure your body is ready and prepared for a baby before you conceive, but if you didn’t know that you were pregnant, you can start taking them as soon as you find out.

Bottom line is, if you are trying to conceive, now is the time to start taking those prenatal vitamins (at the recommendation of your doctor) to provide all the support you need in advance of the pregnancy.

Vitamins and supplements play a major role in our everyday lives. Those who abide by a vegan lifestyle know that it’s crucial to incorporate extra nutrients into their daily routine to maintain healthy function of their bodies. Getting these nutrients is arguably even more important for vegan women who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. Here at Vegan Life Nutrition, we are preparing to launch our new line of vegan prenatal supplements and postnatal supplements to support the overall health of mothers and their babies. vegan prenatal supplements

It’s important to understand which extra nutrients both mom and baby can benefit from as this transition takes place and why they need to be taken consistently.

Why Take Prenatal Supplements?

It can be difficult to find truly vegan supplements and it may not seem like a big deal if you skip out on a few extra steps in your vitamin routine. However, when taking prenatal supplements, consistency is important.

Our prenatal supplements work to support the body in the following ways:

  • Provide essential vitamins for mother and baby.
  • Maintain healthy digestion.
  • Promote healthy cell division and development.
  • Support the fetal brain, spinal cord, heart, muscle, bone, nerve, and skin development.
  • Support placenta growth.
  • Promote red blood cell development.

They are called “prenatal supplements” because they help prepare both the mother’s body and the fetus for a healthy pregnancy. According to The Natalist, ““If you start taking a daily prenatal vitamin before pregnancy, you can set this proverbial nutritional safety net firmly in place, thereby giving yourself and your future baby the best chance of reaping as many benefits as possible.” The extra nutrients will allow optimal conditions and developmental support.

What to Look For in a Vegan Prenatal Supplement.

Our vegan prenatal supplements are 100% plant-based and full of the key vitamins to help  pregnant women sustain healthy nutrient levels during pregnancy.

Some of the key vitamins that you should be on the look out for are:

  • Calcium (calcium carbonate, plant-derived)
  • Iron (ferrous bisglycinate chelate)
  • Iodine (kelp, laminaria digitata)
  • Vitamin B12
  • Manganese (manganese bisglycinatechelate)
  • Chromium (chromium nicotinate glycinate chelate)

Vegan Life Nutrition’s Prenatal / Postnatal Basic vitamins contain all of these nutrients and more to support you before, during, and after pregnancy – encapsulated in pill form for easy digestion.

Vegan Life Nutrition Prenatal Focus Bundle.

In addition to the Prenatal / Postnatal Basic Supplement, we will be offering a Prenatal Focus Bundle to provide extra prenatal-centric nutrients like 550mgs of Choline per serving for optimal fetal care.

These 100% vegan supplements provide essential vitamins and minerals to women who are either pregnant or trying to conceive to support the mother’s health as well as fetal development.

Our new products will launch September 1, 2022 and will be non-GMO, certified gluten-free, cruelty-free, and contain no artificial colors.
